Self-efficacy is your belief that you can complete a task. A person with high self-efficacy will take on challenges and persist through obstacles; they are more likely to recover when setbacks occur. This is the embodiment of Finn. His entire life, he has been training to be a hero in a world where almost everybody else possesses magic powers or some other advantage. Finn is just a 13-year-old boy. Finn was never good at any of the weapons he used; he didn’t win every fight he fought. On the contrary, most of them he lost. But because he has the self-efficacy needed to propel him toward his goal, he eventually succeeds. This leads to him building a growth mindset. He may not be the best, but he will get there in the end. His strength lies in that growth mindset, his ability to trust that he will develop through effort and practice. It doesn’t get him down that he isn’t great right now because he knows he’ll be great later.
